CAA Coach Holley

By CAA 08/22/2019, 7:30am MST

At Canyon Athletic Association, our motto is “Building Community through Sports”. By highlighting some of our outstanding coaches, we want to increase that sense of community by getting to know them, what they stand for, and that they’re human, caring, and approachable. We also want them to know that they are a valued member of our community.

Coach Spotlight: Lasheika Holley

Lasheika coaches the Sequoia Pathway Pumas in Maricopa, AZ. Her girls’ Basketball team recently won the Division 2, 2019 Winter State Championship!

Which sports do you coach and how long have you been coaching?

I coach Volleyball and Basketball. I've been coaching basketball for 20 years and volleyball for 10 years

Which athlete inspired you growing up?

Florence Griffith Joyner and Magic Johnson were my main inspirations growing up.

What are you looking forward to this season?

This season, I'm looking forward to my team’s comradery and intensity. I have a group I've been lucky to be with for a few years, and watching them grow into the young ladies they are, has been exciting.  It's their senior year so mixed emotions of excitement and sadness. I believe they are going to soar and have fun while doing so.

How do think your team will perform this season?

I see the team performing at a high level of volleyball this season. These girls have been through a lot with the turnover we had from last season and are hungry.  They have been working hard and are eager to step foot onto the court.

What growth do you expect from the team this year?

I expect the team to grow as individuals. Last year it was 100% team. I’m hoping the girls learn from their experiences and can maintain the team dynamic and grow as individuals.

What's the best piece of advice you can give your athletes?

Never quit. Heart and dedication are what will come out on top!

On Tuesday, Aug. 20th, Coach Holley’s Volleyball team defeated Basis-Peoria, the Div. 2 State Champions last year, 3-0 in their season opener at home! Their next game is away against Basis- Chandler, 4825 S. Arizona Ave., Chandler, 85248 on Thurs, Aug. 22nd at 5:45 PM.
